Equity and Inclusion

Ongoing events in our country surrounding equality prompted Project Koru and many other organizations to step back and evaluate how equity and inclusion fits into their mission.

The result was our Equity & Inclusion Committee. The Project Koru Equity and Inclusion Committee is a survivor and expert-led committee working to uncover areas in need of improvement in regards to equity and inclusion within Project Koru. The committee works to ensure that Project Koru better represents all survivors within the AYA community.

About the Committee

The Project Koru Equity and Inclusion Committee is a survivor-led committee established in September 2020.

The committee's goal is to better understand the needs in the AYA cancer community to create infrastructure, outreach, and equitable and inclusive programs for all survivors, resulting in a feeling of belonging.

We realize the makeup of young adult cancer survivors that we serve at Project Koru has not matched the makeup of young adult cancer survivors nationwide. Through actionable goals, we hope to improve the representation of the AYA community and ensure we are providing a supportive environment for survivors of all backgrounds and demographic characteristics. We also seek to empower camp alumni survivors who interact with new participants to have these conversations and ensure inclusivity.
